Question Dress Wearing Punks

I have these aweful alcohol warped memories of punk rockers dressed up like women showing up to clubs and parties in dresses.

I seem to have missed that part of the scene personally as I went the old school skin route.

I came to blows on several occassions with dress wearing punk rockers and a couple of them fought pretty good too though fortunately I always prevailed... lol. Must have been that boxing and wrestling I was doing beginning at the Boys Club (Boys and Girls clubs didn't exist back then) in Buena Park at 12-15 years old with all the little Mexican gangsters that lived in the barrio about a block away from it in those days before moving to Fullerton. Other times, I was able to ignore them and just go with the show or party with me mates argh.

I never connected with the feminization side of punk rock fellas. What was up with the full length dresses and the make up for crying out loud?

Those were trippy times. Mostly enjoyable to be truthful. But there was a weirdness to it. I remember the football players at Troy had a penchant for dressing up like cheerleaders for their lame football rallies.

I never understood all the cross dressing going on by the jocks and some punks. I mean we were all number 2 skins out on the town running with punk rockers sporting mohawks and everything from torn jeans to Scottish kilts. Studded leather was popular too. So was all those funky military hats no one wears anymore like the berets. But some punks were pretty normal looking with long black jackets with buttons all over them or big green army jackets with graffiti and whatnot. We caught an occassional ska show or midnight movie with the mods and an occasional rock concert like AC/DC or whatever.

It was always each to their own and I don't mean to communicate we were looking for trouble or picking on anyone because we were not. There were way too many crazies in the scene for one thing to be acting like that. You picked on the wrong person and they might come back with a whole gang. That's just the way it was. Show respect and you got respect. Only occassionally was there no way to avoid it and then you had to defend yourself but it wasn't all the time. Usually it was what you made it. People got what they were looking for I guess. If you were looking for a good time, good music, and good people then that's what you found. If you were looking for something else, then you got that too. I was looking for a good time.

But I shied away from the dress wearers. I mean how do you stand there as a 200 lb 6' 2" skin and have a normal conversation with a cross dresser. Lol.. I'm just trying to get my mind around what was going on in their minds. I suppose it was just a side of punk rock to the extreme some engaged in. Like the eye liner and long earings many punks wore but taken to the extreme.

It's decades ago and I swear I'm not judging nobody just trying to understand. Was it just an anti-facist rebel screw Reagan statement? These guys weren't fags so I guess it had to be.

I hear ya there! I'm not into the dresses. Just sayin - if you're a dude wearing dresses around punkers, that's pretty punk! Especially in like, '79.

Ectasy was legal then too. You could buy pure MDMA at bars in Texas with your credit card but lest we forget MDMA's street name 'ecstasy' was coined in California. That's when some of these tough California and Texas football players stopped acting like dicks to the punkers and started showing up to their concerts with eyeliner on. They were rolling off their asses. Ectasy in those days wasn't corrupted pills that might have some MDMA in them. It was pharmaceutical grade. Legal to make and legal to take. Very illegal after 1985 though.

But that didn't play a role in the punkers dress wearing I know that. They were just flat out crazy and up for anything. They would take uncool and make it cool. But it did with the football players who started Fng around the ectasy though.

Rikk Agnew wore a dress for awhile...he still does from time to time.
He had ulterior motives to cross-dressing, though.
